Threat forces Mars Bars, Snickers off NSW shelves
Food manufacturer Masterfoods is withdrawing from sale all Snickers and Mars Bars products in New South Wales in response to an extortion threat.

Masterfoods' head office in Victoria has received letters in recent months that police described as rambling but threatening.

One of the letters contained a Snickers bar that was contaminated with a substance that has not yet been identified and today a letter arrived saying seven bars in New South Wales have been contaminated.

Masterfoods president says Andy Weston Webb says he is concerned for public health.

"No one should be eat a Mars or Snickers bar that they have bought, please destroy it," he said.

There is no evidence of anyone becoming ill so far but police are treating the threat seriously.

They are not giving details of the demands from the extortionist, saying the information is highly sensitive.

oh no! no more American candy bars for south wales...

I sure an image in the paper yesterday of the truck convoy dumping many thousands of bars... I can't help but feel they are polluting the earth somehow. Or maybe the extortionists think if nobody pays them, well, they can go and dig up all the bars, either it's a win.
