Revisionism in comics for my fans, this is not cut and pasted neither is it copied , this is straight from the genius that is Whirlysplat, lubricated by a few pints o Guinness and one Jackie D and Red Bull.
One of the problems Comic creators have is whilst they grow older and their audience grows older the comic characters do not. When your dealing with Universes as complex as Marvel and DC and characters that are truly iconic like Supes and Bats, Spidey and the Xmen, the comic companies and creators are faced with a variety of problems😄
The biggest problem is the world ages and the heroes may become out of step with it. Look at what happened to Batman. When first created he battled "cowardly villains", then the war came and he battled "spies and the hun", then the flying saucer scare came in the 50's and he battled aliens 😕 then the TV show in the sixties made him look silly, then he became cool again in the seventies, then Miller made him dark, Burton ruined him and now his cool again. But what about the continuity it goes to shit. DC and Marvel have approached this in different ways. Dc recently in the last twenty years have had crisis, where their whole universe has been revised. We've had smaller changes as well like hypertime. Marvel have approached it differently, they have had small changes in origins like all the changes to Daredevil origin over the years, or the Vision and have almost said **** continuity. Recently Marvel have come up with a new idea, whole new universes based on old characters. It was proved in the 80's completely new Universe with new characters did not sell usually, exceptions exist of course, The Wildstorm Universe is a good example of this. Of course for every success we had a lot of failures produced by the big companies and independents, perhaps the best one which was unsuccessful was the Valiant Universe. Marvel though are now creating new universes with new takes on old characters, the best known of these revisions is the ultimate universe aimed at teens and above. DC are about to do the same thing with its all star universe. imo its a good thing as you youngsters will see things afresh abit like I did when I read Death of Phoenix, Xmen 137 in continuity in my teens. Enjoy your generations new comics, with my generations heroes. Thats what Ultimates etc are about, make it work for you!!!!!!!!!
Keep the Faith😄
