Cosmic Powers #1:
Thanos single handedly defeats the Ovin mercenary army, who have a reputation as the "deadliest in the known universe". Note how much damage his opponent actually takes (Thanos has beaten the Silver Surfer to near death with just a few punches, and his opponent here takes several punches and blasts), which gives you an indication of their strength and durability, and Thanos defeated an army of them

I got a question that I think everyone seems to miss... How the hell can an eternal die by getting their heart ripped out? I thought they had mental mastery of every atom of their body and nothing less than a major portion of their atoms scatted could kill them. Or is this a trait that titan eternals don't have even though they are capable of merging with the uni-mind meaning have their bodies dissassociated. And even if Thanos were to get hurt he could heal himself instantly right? As stated by Odin in WarlockIW# 25 Thanos taps a near limitless power source... He can amp his strength, blasts ect... Thanos is one bad dude even more so if everyone can connect the dots about him being an eternal.

I don't know really, but it was brought up in the Annihilation thread when it happened.
It must have something to do with Drax's powers, because the same question could arise about Drax actually breaking through his skin.
