Then turned the light on...

Would he be able to think up and cast a spell, before the light reached him...?

No...

Likewise he wouldn't be able to cast a spell before they crush his skull... 🙂

I am English, so are all my friends and family. So are my many accquaintances up and down the entire country.

And we all use the word 'span' when referring to someone who 'span' around, something that 'span' around.

"I walked out the door, span around and walked straight back in again."

You can argue till you're blue in the face as to whether the word is out of date.

Bearing in mind that it is still used by everyone in England, I'd say it's still part of the English Language.
