The fight was actually in a place where Odin knew BRB would have an advantage. Odin stripped Thor of all his godly power and was intent on having Thor loose in order to teach him a lesson. In other words, the odds were intentionally stacked against Thor.
After seeing your scan, I checked my book. For the first time in years. You are right.
