I told you not to care what I said.... 😛

Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with them; or maybe it's just because I can't get over the fact that he wrote an entire series based on Biblical allusion - nevertheless, I'm not a fan.

That being said, as far as children's literature goes....well, I s'pose it isn't that bad....although, of course, I prefered Hob. and HP much more....I enjoyed the film-version well enough....

It's so much that I care what you said, but I like to argue for the sake of argument? 😛

But yeah, its one of those things I liked better when I was younger, before I was forced to start analyzing and tearing it apart in school...that always seems to ruin it for me.

I definatly <3 the hobbit and harry Potter more than Narnia, but to be fair I loved narnia first before HP was around, and before I got to the hobbit. And perhaps its the simple fact that Narnia was the first fantasy type books I had read and that is what has formed my attachment to them 😊

P'raps. Tolkien was my first introduction to literary fantasy; from there, I didn't read much else fantasy-wise (save some SW novels over the years) until HP.

I started with HP and Narnia first myself, but I'm definitely converted to LOTR

Yea! A convert! 😛

hehe 😛

I'm the same. It was narnia, and then my parents said HP was evil when my 5th grade teacher assigned it, so i was exempt from reading it...and then in 6th grade we read Golden Compass 😍 And then i was in a play-version of the hobbit. (funniest thing ever. now that i'm a "tolkien-convert" it amuses me how WRONG it was. but that's community theatre for ya. I should upload some pics/songs (yes- it was a musical) for you guys sometime 😄 and so I read the book with the play. And then when HP 4 came out I went against my parents wishes and snuck to the library after school to read them. LotR came later, after my brother forcibly drug me to the fellowship movie when it was playing at the doller-theatre (sooo...around when TTT came out). The movie broke halfway through (which was SO lucky on my part) so we got to start over from the beginning, and I went home, bought the books, and thus my love was born.

Though I hadn't quite made it thorugh Return of the King when that film came out, and my brother had told me that Frodo died at the end. So being the freak that I am, I flipped to the last pages and read like the last two. And of course, Frodo isn't in those last two pages, so I believed my brother. Needless to say when Frodo and Gollum go over the cliff near the end...I was so upset. And then he came back! I never forgave my brother for that one 😛

And....there is my life story of being introduced to fantasy. I'm sure I've bored you all by now, so clearly it is time for me to go sleep since its almost 3 Am.

GOODNIGHT hug

Oh, don't get me wrong, I enjoy Lee - the pictures found throughout the novel are amazing! But Howe's impression of Glaurung ruined my own perception of him, and Lee's interpretation was far too....slender, snake-like.

Haha! Well that's one of the great things about art Melcórë, it's just one interpretation of something and certainly not limited to that one only! Any artists interpretation is never considered the 'standard' or the only 'proper' or 'right' version. People interpret art in so many ways it's cool to just appreciate their insight and your own at the same time.

Many artists have interpretated Tolkiens work. You may like Ted Nadsmiths version of Glaurung.. it's more bulky 😛

bulky is better so far as dragons are concerned. western ones that is

True, true.

In truth, I have never been much of a fan of Nadsmith (sp.?). 😛

I've always envisaged the later dragons - such as Ancalagon or Smaug - as being generally less-bulky and more serpentine in their appearance....
