Best (or Favorite) Songwriter

In my opinion, Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter of all time. Cliché, I know, but you can't deny that the man is a very skilled lyricyst (listen to Blood on the Tracks if you have any doubts). I also feel that Neil Young, Jackson Browne and John Lennon are among the very best.

But my favorite would probably have to be Roger Waters, along with Maynard James Keenan, Isaac Brock, and Thom Yorke.

Maynard James Keenan isn't a songwriter, he's said so himself.

Thom Yorke, Josh Homme, Jack White, Prince to name a few.

he doesn't write his own songs?

He writes the lyrics and adds to the creating of the songs.

He doesn't write Tool's songs on his own. They all write them together.

ryan adams
adam duritz (although doesn't do it all himself)

and someone who i think was always under rated

evan dando

Rivers Cuomo, Robert Smith, Jack White, Josh Homme, Mikael Akerfeldt, Jason Lytle, Jeff Buckley, Jimi Hendrix.

The single greatest in my opinion is Rivers.

Mike Motherf***ing Patton

Seriously, the man is godly in his writing.

I agree.

The fact that he single handedly writes all Fantomas material never ceases to amaze me.

Didn't mention Patton because it seemed unfair.
