I have mixed feelings about them. Personally, I think they could have been one of the greatest bands ever, if not for their implosion. They were certainly on "that road" to legendary status.
You mean to suggest Guns 'n' Roses aren't legendary?
They became legends with Appetite for Destruction, they never really topped it, hence why Axl is how he is.

Hard to say. ...is a fine line here. I'm just saying that they were "on their way there".
How Axl is presently doesn't have much to do about why the band or first album is or isn't legendary, in my honest opinion. I fail to see the correlation. Maybe there is a tie in, who knows.
I admit that when a band happens to make their first CD its best CD, their work is cut out for them to top their greatest achievement, unfairly or fairly. The CDs that followed weren't thaaaat bad either.....just don't measure up to A4D, that's all.
Ultimately, I feel that one great album doesn't necessarily a legendary status make/bestow; and we disagree on our philosophy of legendary.
