I'm sorry, just because some DC writer decided to grab an item to impress all the JLA fanboys doesn't mean the actual Avengers were ever in the DCU. If the Marvel Avengers ever acknowledge it then i'll admit I was wrong. Honestly, all you're doing by trying to make it canon here at KCM Forums is trying to tip the balance into DC's favor over biased and writing concessions that would not normally be made under either of the parent companies.
Seriously though, the combination of the DCU and the Marvel U is probably the worst thing that could ever happen to comics. I don't know why anyone would try to push for it. The comics are too different.
