It's trip-hop isn't it? The music itself is way too complex to be called ''beats'', which is what hip-hop is.

Says who? I, among many others, consider this to be hip-hop to the fullest.

I don't want to sit here all day trying to lump his music up into special little genre's, but the album is definitely hip-hop.

maybe not essential but definitly slept on:

Will Vill- The Arrival

it has a few weak tracks, but its a solid album in my opinion. i'll upload it later on.

Certainly fits the trip-hop bill better than it does hip-hop, and I, among many others, consider it the former

3rd Bass-The Cactus Album...white boys rappin before it was cool to do so...i know somone out there will say something bout Vanilla ice*snicker* but you look at hip hop now and theres quite a few white rappers...shame Pete Nice And Serch thought they were black tho....
Erick B. and Rakim - Dont Sweat the Technique
Tribe called Quest - Beats, Rhymes. Life
Ice-T - Power and O.G.
De la Soul - Buhlone Mind State

Quite a few?? There's probably just as many white rappers as there is black nowadays.

Maybe it's both? I don't know, either. Personally I think it's hip-hop, but it certainly can be considered trip-hop.

yea pretty much^

my must-have list

Nas-illmatic
Cunninlygnuists-Will Rap For Food
Immortal Technique-Revolutionary Vol. 1 & 2
Talib Kweli-Reflection Eternal
Dr. Dre-The Chronic
Madvillian(mf doom)-Madvilliany

hip hop is DJs and MCs. Shadow is a DJ who used hip hop beats. saying its complex doesn't stop it from beign hip hop; or else Public Enemie's layered beats wouldn't be considered hip hop
