indeed, I think Anakin feels being held back is a key here, also his great ego.
He might show his emotion to some of the council members or "worse" Palpatine..... and he takes the advantage of Anakin feelings to make Anakin more reluctant towards the JO, maybe even more egocentric and conceited. In other words turn him against the JO principles
Yoda specifically says : " Powerful Jedi he was " ... Obi Wan also specifically says that he was a great jedi, although I forget the exact words. And Luke ... " I am a jedi ... like my father before me "
Anakin at the end of episode 2 is not a Jedi yet ... still an apprentice ... he hasnt taken the trials yet. Therefore it stands to reason, that he WILL be shown as a jedi in Episode 3. And atleast in the beginning of the movie, I suppose some of his greatness as a Jedi and a starpilot, referred to in the PT will be shown. At least, I hope it will.
Well, Yoda said he was a powerful Jedi, which is true, and Obi-Wan said he was a cunning warrior and a great star pilot... that's pretty much all that was said.
I agree we may well all have expected to see him being rather more senior but I suspect what we have seen won't be far off from what we get.
I don't think the star pilot thing needs explained anymore than it has done. Winning the pod race and destroying the control ship was enough for me.
And remember, Obi-Wan doesn't know he blew up the control ship by accident. He didn't see what happened.
After the battle, Obi-Wan would have been told that this 9 year old kid destroyed it. That would have impressed him.
