Majin Buu wasn't dead though, I think Rebirth of Fusion was based in the middle of the Buu saga, after Goku's 24 hours on Earth was up. Probably around the Fusion Saga actually, since Goten and Trunks could do fusion. But yeah it was funny how Frieza was taken out so quickly. But if Spopovich and Yamu were so strong, why didn't they stay around, even if Babidi was dead he'd of been brought back and then power all the villans up as well...oh thats a nasty thought, Majin Frieza, Majin Cell, etc.
anyways it would b fun to face older villains, and yes it may be some sort of a sport if you are strong enough especially if last time yo saw them was more than a saga ago then you could be much stronger liek facnig and of teh Ginyu Force in Rebirth of Fusion would be cake.
