The main issue I would find troubling is if the kid is mixed with black and turns out looking mostly black, but that kid identifies him or herself with the other parent (maybe because they are closer or for whatever reason), the kid identifies himself or herself as hispanic or part Indian or Asian...yet, the blacks that aren't mixed may give them a hard time b/c they look moreso black then anything else...so, I feel sorry for any kid in that situation...I hate it for IR children who mostly look black, b/c if they identify with the "other" half, their life will be hell if they have to deal with blacks at school or eventually at work or in the community.
And the parent that is non-black may not really be able to relate to the problems their child is facing (even though they are close and share genes), b/c blacks will treat the non-black person differently, the only way the parent will know is if they observe (acting as if the aren't the parent of their kid and seeing how these interactions take place) or they would have a trusting relationship with their child, trusting that the experiences they are having is REAL and not imagined. The harder part would be finding someone within that circle of trust who understands what the other half of society is dictating to their kid.

Well just to verify this, normally you do see mixed children claim to be black EVEN IF they are very bright skinned. They are not made fun of much as long as they assimilate, so to speak. Then again, all of races of people tend to do that - make fun of one in the circle who is unlike them. Not you and your personal clique, I mean in general

That explains why mixed kids who look slightly black have exaggerated black attitudes, b/c they are taught they MUST assimilate or get beat up or something? I think there was a rapper named Foxy Brown, she claimed her Native American heritage, and I knew that as soon as she did that, she was in for it, and she was. She made that statement like 7 or 8 years ago, and as soon as I heard it, I knew she was going to have hell in her life, and her life hasn't been great ever since, that's the OTHER half of the story that isn't reported. All you have to do is look her hair and nose, and you can see she has a lot of Indian in her family or genes, and would make sense for her to claim it IF she felt close to it, but once she did, her "star" life was over with, and it was down hill for her.
From what I've seen in my life and in the media, if someone is mixed with black and they aren't claiming their black side, bad things happen to that person, I've seen it and if you think I'm crazy, watch for the next celeberty or media focus on someone who is mixed but looks a lot like a black person but doesn't claim the black side...see how their life turns...there is good reasons why some shy away from mixing with blacks.
Sorry that this isn't a good picture of her, but her look is CLASSICALLY black and Indian, when you mix black and Indian (Asian), you get that kind of hair, wavy.

They don't do it because they will get beat up. It's because they want to be accepted; no different than what happens on playgrounds among kids of the same race. Mixed people (in this case I mean white and black) are not white people so it is just as well they just be called black (that is the logic).

You would assume that just b/c I look black, that both my parents look like the same race and they don't, neither did all of my grand parents, but somehow, black is the only option, I do believe that people who are mixed black tend to be HARRASSED into the culture. and I wasn't raised around blacks all my life, maybe 3 years of my life, but I was harassed as an adult, just the same as when I was around blacks for those 3 years.

I just finished reading three damn books for sociology on Native American culture and what this government has done to them and so on. Most of my life experience was seeing BLACKS doing it or pulling a sympathy role in order for a white person to do it (their conduit). I can care less if this is perceived as a stereotype, I am part Indian too, I know the games blacks play when they think someone ought to be "black". And yes, as of this year, and this was in the news, an American Indian tribe has kicked out anyone who is mixed with black. Other races are so tired of the bullying, and you know what, when people don't look mixed but they are, they still go back to their other family and tell all, so other races know the deal, and you wonder why people don't like mixing with blacks.
