^^ Sweet idea, CA. If you made that I'd totally want to see it.
There are very few ideas that can be seen as new when it comes to the horror genre, almost everything has been done numerous times. The number of stale films and redundant horror films coming out recently is evidence of this. The best we can hope for, is a new take on a traditional sub-genre.
That said, I'm in the process of writing my first full length horror script. It's a horror/revenge film, with the raw, plausible reality of the Guinea Pig films with the character development similar to a suspense/drama, which has a underlining message about the desensitization to violent images that many people have.
There really hasn't been a real horror/revenge film lately, so I thought it would be fun to try and write one in a style that I haven't really seen before.

I think if older people or younger children are the victims and targets in films it is more effective and frightening and has more connection and emotional resonance with the audience as opposed to attractive teenagers that everyone wants to die.
Younger kids getting hacked up is in bad taste, IMO. If it weren't, it would have been done before, aside from the notorious "Salo". Adults are almost automatically smarter in Horror movies, and like I said, wouldn't make for interesting characters in a "slasher". That's what the psychological thriller is for. Adults.

This is true, killing children is a huge taboo, one of the last ones left in the film world. That's why I think you'll start to see some more films coming out soon that include the death of children. Horror films have always been about breaking taboos in order to shock, horrify and upset the viewer, it's been happening with rape in film for a while now, and I think child deaths are coming next. In my script I have a scene where a child is murdered, though I'm doing my best to make i non-exploitive.
I am all for killing children. Just because they're young, it makes them invincible? Horror movies already put them in danger. When they survive 100% of the time, it gets predictable. I remember watching Silver Bullet for the first time. The werewolf picked up the girl and I said to myself, "He's not going to kill her, she's too young." Sure enough, her uncle tackled the werewolf before he could do anything.
And CA, I would so see that video store clerk movie!
what would my horror movie be..
DOPPLEGANGER:
my main character would have a very similar past to mine. the same circumstances same family same life...
she however would deal with life.by instinct and inate urges.. i suppose she would be a psycopath, and my movie would be directed somthing like a cross between "naked lunch" and "gothika", with a little tarantino mixed in.
story line would follow her through her twenties, including flashbacks from her past. not necessarly a muder spree movie, more unsettling.
heh.
sounds good.

"The Manchurian Candidate", the original, is almost identical.
