I think Vader was by then. Did more than shut down his systems, though, when you look at it!

Not that it helps but it might be worth knowing that in the first version of ROTJ, the Emperor did have a lightsabre which he throws tto Vader at one point after Vader loses his.

look in ANEWHOPE, obi-wan says that Luke's father was A JEDI KNIGHT. not a padawan

I do not remember this. Is this a fact? If so,then he was keeping his sabre underneath his imperialistic robes,as it is not seen during the closeups prior to Luke reaching for his own lightsaber,which Palpatine had on his armchair! And,Dexx,that was a really cool sketch! Very artistic,and I should know,as I studied art in school once! 😄

In the EU book about the training of Darth Maul, after some extremely grueling thing that Maul went through, he had to duel with his master, meaning Sidious whipped out his lightsaber. Maul bit him. 😄

Also another ROTJ version thingy, Luke tries to push the Lightning away in one version.
