just saw it tonight and thought it was really good. to me rocky is a trilogy at this point. 1 and 2 were great, this is a fitting end, and rocky 3 and 4, though amusing, was just silly. rocky 5 was just a disaster.

Why was 3 silly? it was very believeable and realistic. 😕

...definitely hoping to catch it at the movies.

i gotta agree with mr.parker... 3 was real good... i love all rocky movies.. saw rocky balboa last night, and i gotta say its a great movie. i wish it does better in the box office in the next couple of weeks because it really deserves it... the only regret i have is that rocky should have worn his "american flag" boxers to fight dixon... if he would have done that it would have been great.. what you guys think?

for me the original and 3 are still the best. this one was better than i expected though..4 and 5 just sucked

I think this is the first time we have EVER agreed with each other on anything before. 😆 Rocky 3 is a close second favorite for me after the original.

yep we actually agreed one something yay lol. kinda strange but it feels good i guess..

it was not believable. i would think that believablity would be out the window the second he picked hulk hogan up over his head.

but even that aside, the plot was shit, just as with 4 and 5.
in these later films they turned balboa into an invulnerable coked up
steroid amped superhero. the charm of rocky is the classic rags to riches story
along with 'average man accomplishes the seemingly impossible through determination, will etc.'

thats why the first was awesome even though he didnt win. once they had used up that plot in the second (great movie, but pretty much the same plot...only he wins this time) there was no other direction to take it. frankly imho everything that happens after he wins the title is irrelevant since at that point he has already accomplished the impossible goal.

after this the plot just turned into:

-rocky is seemingly the best boxer
-challenger arises which poses a threat to his manhood, no longer just another competetor which the audience can also empathise/sypathise like apollo, but more of an evil comic book bad guy
-rocky is reluctant to challenge him
-evil bad guy embarasses rocky, and takes something from him, whether that be his title, killing his friend, or knocking his brother-in-law out.
-rocky turns immortal and invincible and beats bad guy to a pulp.

yeah, if the plot of a movie can follow the genetic plotline of any other crappy 80's fight/action film, i would dare say its crap...imho

What was it supposed to do, stay as Rocky the underdog forever... He came from the gutter, beat the champ... what was he going to do, retire?
Part 3 was great because it turned Rocky the Ape, into Rocky the boxer with help from Apollo... Rocky had turned into the Flashy gimmicky boxer that Apollo had turned into before fighting Rocky.. And Apollo brings him back to his roots..

heck, now that I think about it, this might be the best one.

After beating Apollo, he only really fights 2 guys... Clubber Lang and Drago... Clubber Lang crushes him, rocky later trains and comes back and beats him
Drago practically beats the crap out of him, only to tire out and lose in the last round... so really I dont see the invincibillity and the beating people into a pulp youre talking about.

okay the first sentence you make a good point on.Yeah the fight with hulk hogan was stupid and not at all believeable.Thats when the rocky movies started to get stupid and unrealistic is after rocky 2 which is what made the rocky movies so great in the beginning. That was the one thing I didnt care for about rocky 3 was the realistic and believeability factor that made the first two so great started to go out the window with rocky 3 and got even far worse with rocky 4.Easily the most absurd and unbelieveable of them all since rocky would have died just as well also early on from Dragos beatings like appollo did.The thing that bothered me about rocky 3 was rocky would have ended up in the hospital for months after getting slammed to the floor so many times by Hulk Hogan and never would have been able to climb back into the ring with him.Unlike Rockys fight with Drago in Rocky 4 though, that wasnt enough to ruin the movie for me though.Putting all that aside though, if you forget that moment,it was a great flick.Much more exciting than rocky 2 which dragged on too long and got to be a little boring. He fought twice in that film so that made it more exciting than the second one.

The thing I love so much about rocky 3 though is putting aside the absurdity of the hulk hogan wresting match, throw that out the window and its a great film.It showed how the boxing world really is when you get on top and start getting complacent like he did, that theres always somebody else out there whos more hungry than you are waiting to take the crown from you and eventually does.It was very real.Reminds me of what happened to Mike Tyson. He got to the point where he was so arrogant and too cocky that he stopped training really hard like he normally did and as a result, when he fought Buster Douglass-a guy who was more hungry than he was and trained harder than Tyson,he beat Tyson and took the belt from him. Then the same thing that happened to Tyson happened with Douglass as well.He ALSO got too cocky and got a big head out of beating Tyson that he also thought he was invinsible and did not train hard for his next fight-you could tell because he got so fat and out of shape -it was so obvious, like Tyson,he did not train hard for his next fight and lost to Evander Holyfield..Rocky 3 was real life in that regard with how he did not train very hard against Clubber Lang the first time, and as a result, lost to him. Plus it was touching and sad when Mickey died.come on now.Unlike Rocky 4 and 5, the plot wasnt shit at all.sure 4 and 5 were shit,no question on that whatseover, but Rocky 3 doesnt come anywhere close to being a crappy story with the absurdity and nonsense that Rocky 4 and 5 had in it.

Like the hawk said, what was he SUPPOSE to do,stay as Rocky the underdog forever? Like he said,he came from the gutter,-same as Tyson did,he beat the champ, what was he going to do retire?

🍺 Just watched this again today,So thought I would post my opinion while it is still fresh in my mind,I really felt this movie just lacked the spirit of the previous films,The biggest thing I was disappointed with is the Villian they chose in this film,I just feel like for an undefeated heavyweight champion he just didn't really seem to pose a big threat to me,I would of really of liked to see him with a stronger, nastier personality but apart from that it was definitely a great way to end the series for which I am grateful for.

I don't think he was the villain.

Both Rocky and the champ were victims. The real villain was the hype and pressure from all sides.

I thought the champ was a good guy. It was one of those "man versus society" type things, not man versus man. You know?

😮‍💨 Thats a very good point and I completely agree,I guess labeling him as a villain was a mistake

really? You dont think that having the villain actually be a pretty decent guy make it more sincere? I liked the fact that he was an average guy who actually respected Rocky.

As a major Rocky I fan, I try to erase 3, 4, and 5 from my memory (I can stomach 2, but honestly, it didn't really amount to much). Sure, growing up these movies were fun, but now I see them all as things which only detract from the original. I was very concerned when "Rocky VI" was announced, but after seeing it several times I feel like Stallone did right by the character for the first time since Rocky I. It wasn't high art, but it cleaned up the mess Stallone had made and ended everything in a nice, satisfying way. That said, I kinda wish Stallone wrote a script where Rocky knocks on Stallone's door and is like, "Yo! Sly! Every movie you take one of my loved ones from me, or you take all my money away or you make me look like a punch-drunk fool! Now how's about I show you how this south-paw from Philly can kick your Hollywood a** down a flight of stairs?"

🍺 I see your point and I guess it did make it more sincere, but I just never felt any sense of Danger in this movie, like I did with the others

Then you're more of a major "Rocky I" fan.

Just watched "Rocky 4" again last night, and it's still one of my all time favorite movies.

Dude, I believed that movie LESS than 4. Thunderlips? Really? And the match at the end was just so lame. It was the most un-boxing match of every boxing match in the series. It was just them standing and hitting.

I like how you think,We pretty much have the same agreements.I have said the same thing you did many times except I only try to erase 4 and 5 from my memory.Ialways try and forget those two disgraceful films and wish that it could have ended as a trilogy with rocky 3 with them dancing around with each other in the ring like they did.that was a perfect way to end it all right there.end it there, never make 4 and 5 and just go on to the last rocky movie and make it,rocky 6.
