There's been some exceptional horror films, most of them have gone under the radar of most people. Movies like Battle Royale

Since when is Battle Royale a horror movie?

It isn't primarily, but it definately has some horror elements in it.

i think they're keeping horror archetypes like Jason and Myers alive and making movies is because the ones that are coming out now are god awful. they went from Freddy, Jason and Myers to the badguy in Scream, the Fisherman, the Creeper and crap like those. its not that surprising that they keep rehashing the old stuff

Anyone see Herbie: Fully loaded? Or the latest Amityville? Didn't think so.

I saw both of those, both awful.

Eh, that's Hollywood for ya. For every true movie gem out there there's about a million pieces of shit covered in glitter. Unfortunately, there are people out there that like the glitter-covered shit.

The Sorry State of Movies Today by Jay Sherman (The Critic)

I am a movie critic by trade. And until recently, I got paid to tell you people which movies merely stink and which movies you shouldn't screen near an open flame. Well, I'm putting the burden of lousy movies back on you! It's very simple. If you stop going to bad movies, they'll stop making bad movies.

Hollywood executive: "Uh oh, the jig is up!" *Jumps out window*

If the movie used to be a TV show, just don't go. After Roman numeral two, give it a rest. If it's a remake of a classic, rent the classic!

Tell them you watch stories about people, not $100 million of stunts and explosives. People, it's up to you! If the movie stinks, just don't go!

The Internet has been rife with rumors that John Carpenter will return to write and/or direct the next HALLOWEEN movie, tentatively titled HALLOWEEN: BLOODLINES. But Carpenter (pictured on the set of his MASTERS OF HORROR entry CIGARETTE BURNS) during a recent chat with FANGORIA, said it was news to him.

“No one has talked to me about writing or directing the next HALLOWEEN,” the director tells us. “And even if they did, I don’t know if I would be inclined to write another one. A lot would depend on what they [Trancas International] are offering. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really want to do a sequel to HALLOWEEN. I did it once. There’s really nothing left to tell.” He further reveals that he was offered the opportunity to direct HALLOWEEN: H20, but turned it down. “They wanted me to do H20 for peanuts, and I said, ‘I work for more than that.’ ”

Carpenter additionally notes that a pet project in the pipeline, THE 13TH APOSTLE (see details here), is on hold. “That’s one I might direct, but it’s all a matter of whether they have enough money to make the movie right and if they have enough to pay me.” And he adds that, all rumors aside, he has never had a beef with HALLOWEEN honcho Moustapha Akkad. “I have no problem with the Akkads. They pay me a whole lot of money every time they make one of those things.”

From creature corner :

For years, in between increasingly idiotic entries in the Halloween franchise, we've heard threats of a remake of John Carpenter's original classic. But just how close it to actually happening?

Not very, it seems. Dread Central tracked down Malek Akkad (with killer tenacity, no doubt) and asked about the remake. Akkad, whose family owns the rights to Michael Myers and his slaying ways, admitted that although it's been considered, they're focusing instead on a new installment of the Shatner-masked murder machine.

While this doesn't rule out the possibility of a remake happening some day, at least Akkad recognizes that the original holds up just fine for the moment. If only the makers of The Fog '05 had felt the same...

Don't remake what is already perfect.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo what have we done to deserve this

Amityville 2005 was utter shit. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 sucked big time. and any other remake thats gonna come out will suck. These sleazy hollywood producers and directors can't think up any new storylines for a horror film so they make there millions by wrecking other ppls work. If you i could tell them exactly what i think of them and the trash they make.

if you are gonna make a remak, it needs to be at least 15 years away from the final sequal made

I hate Halloween films but if this is a remake it's gonna suck. I hate remakes.
