Xorn appears to enjoy concentration which suggests he has proficency in that department. In this battle Xavier prob. won't know what he's going to be facing other than a star brain. Can even Xavier's mental powers exist in the fluxuations of a star?

Emma was able to probe the mind of the telepathic "Black-Hole-Head" Xorn 2, so i guess Xavier will not have too many problems with the non telepathic "Star-Head" Xorn 1.
