and nobody really gains anything from war, but still, ball up
Quite narrowminded statement. A lot of people gain from war. A lot of people lose from war, but that does not mean that a lot of people does not gain from war.
Let me explain this carefully for you: Germany wanted Norway. Germany crushed Denmark. Sweden had no quarrel with Germany. Sweden stood between two choices: Fight Germany, or let them pass. The consequences of respective choices were: Lose a lot of people in a war you had nothing to gain from and everything to lose in, against a foe that could beat you and would OR stay out of their way and spare the lives of the Swedish people and stay on the good side with the at the date greatest force in Europe.
You were joking at first, but I have a feeling that you now actually feel that Sweden were cowards for not standing against Germany. Let me ask you these two questions:
1. What is cowardice?
2. Is it cowardice to have the choice to spare your country from a war that has plagued half Europe and bring more suffering and death to your people than the war already indirectly has caused and take it? Is it really cowardice to stay out of the way of a nation you know will crush you like it did your equally strong neighbor.
