I think the creepy guy did... when Carla Jean said ..."I dont have the money"... he said something like " I know you dont.. "..........and remember how Luwellen(??) put the money in the vent of the hotel - well he did again at the last hotel he stayed at-- and towards the end - Tommy Lee Jones walks into that hotel and sees that the creepy guy had used a dime to unscrew the vent --- but I dont know if the money is really all that significant in the movie
