You have to trust them, they have a set ending to the show already. Of course we don't know what it is, but the main writers know exactly where the whole thing is ending. You just have to go along for the bumpy ride until it reaches the conclusion.

I haven't given up on them yet. I'll get around to renting season three (yeah, I'm one of those guys). But after watching season one in one weekend on dvd, then waiting for season two where a bunch of stuff happens, but really nothing happens, I became doubtful.

Season 3 is shit until mid season, but then it picks up real nice...and season 4 has been badass all season.
