You seem to think that Billie Joe is some academic genius because he says he likes to be ambiguous in his lyrics. Anyway, as TGF said, it seems like he's forcing himself to be ambiguous in these lyrics, which makes him come off as having artistic pretentions.

Pretty much the biggest reason I like Green Day so much is because of their lyrics. If the lyrics aren't that great, I won't really enjoy it.The lyrics you just posted sound like discarded or rejected lyrics to Holiday or something, the lyrics they decided weren't quite good enough for the actual song.
