LIBRA
The Scales…September 23 to October 22
Libra your element is Air and your quality is Cardinal. You are the relationship devotee of the Air signs, graceful and strategic, the ‘in charge’ cardinal sign. The Air element means you are a Thinking Type, motivated by mental ideals and communication dynamics.
As the ‘cardinal’ Air sign, you initiate human connections and drive cooperation. Usually tactful and subtle in your push toward relationships, you can surprise people with your feisty side. You can fall into indecision if you are too concerned to make the perfect choice and if you try too hard to please, your honesty is called into question. You are most happy when you achieve a balance between your personal creative efforts and being with the people you love. You are the seventh sign and the lover of the zodiac, your key phrase: “I unite”.
VENUS: Planet of Love
Your Planetary Ruler
A sense of justice and an impulse to initiate relationship are the way your Air shimmers. A cool character with passionate ideals, ancient Arabic astrology says Libra is “of hot and humid nature (aerial). Its angel holds the keys of the creation of states (ephemeral) and of changes.” (Mystical Astrology According to Ibn ‘Arabi) Does this hint at your well-known fence sitting, yes it does. It also suggests you know exactly what you want - you simply change a lot. Venus is the opposite pole of sexual energy to Mars, the magnetic draw card, which displays the nectar for the bees with vibrant colours and sweet allure. Mars wants to win, Venus knows how to! Diplomacy, charm and a magnetic mental quality are some of the gifts of Venus to Libra. Since the love planet rules both Libra and Taurus, you are the ‘day sign’ of Venus. In the body Libra rules adrenals and kidneys, the venous system and the acid/alkaline balance, as well as sharing rulership of the skin. The right balance of rest and play, of optimism and realism is your key to good health.
Mythic Venus was quite a gal with many exploits. Most beautiful and seductive of the goddesses, she was born from the Ocean. When she appeared before the gods in all her naked radiance each wanted to marry her. When she scornfully refused, the king of the gods punished her pride by forcibly marrying her to the lowliest god of the forge, the lame Vulcan. Venus soon deserted him, openly declaring she would please herself. She had many illicit affairs, because love and fertility, not morality, were her main concerns. She bore three children to Mars, her polar opposite - she the lover, he the warrior. Ever on the romantic lookout, she also fell in love with the beautiful Adonis. When he died an untimely death she convinced Jupiter to let her reclaim him from the Underworld for half of every year, just as spring brings new growth and beauty every year. Venus represents a force of nature –attraction and mating, so she was the goddess who helped mortal couples overcome obstacles to love. Her interference could have tragic consequences. Thus she inspired the Trojan War, by promising the beautiful Queen of Sparta to Paris a prince of Troy. Yet she also inspired the one female heroic quest in the very male-focused Roman and Greek myths: these were the labours of Psyche in her quest for union with Eros. Psyche succeeded in winning her ideal love by listening to the forces of nature and asking for their help, by acknowledging her vulnerable feelings and letting them show. As an Air sign, you are prone to staying in your head and rationalising your feeling states. If that sounds like your kind of Libra, then Psyche’s story is rich in meaning and helpful motifs.
Venus represents the vitality of human connections, of relationship balance. Her special message for Libra is to believe in love’s work, even amidst strife and uncertainty.

Pisces you are the mystic of the Water signs, sometimes even a mystery to yourself – the frequently changing ‘mutable’ Water sign. The Water element means you are a feeling type, motivated by strong emotions, visionary impulses and feeling attachments.
As the ‘mutable’ Water sign, you mutate from feeling to feeling, plan to plan, vision to vision. This makes you highly creative or gifted at working with other people and sometimes just predictably unpredictable. You are the sign most likely to motivate yourself to do something by saying you will never do it again. You are also very skilled in a helping capacity, naturally comfortable with service. Yet you easily evoke the help of others by readily expressing vulnerability. You are most happy when you can follow your dreams, while intimately linking with other people’s dreams. As the dreamer your key phrase is: “I imagine”.
JUPITER: Planet of Wisdom
Your Planetary Ruler
A rich imagination and an impulse to merge with others are the way your Water flows. A caring sensitive nature, with the ability to ‘tune-in’ to others, ancient Arabic Astrology describes you thus: “Pisces are of cold and humid nature (aqueous). Their angel rules…luminous bodies and the tenebrous bodies and in particular it holds the keys to the creation of animals”. (Mystical Astrology According to Ibn ‘Arabi). Indeed just as animals pick up changes in the weather before humans, so Pisces tends to pick up changes in the emotional atmosphere before most other signs. You are the ‘night sign’ of planet Jupiter, expressing Jupiter’s wisdom quest in a more private introverted way than Jupiter’s other sign – Sagittarius. Faith, hope and optimism are some of the gifts Jupiter endows. In the body Pisces rules the feet, the lymphatic and glandular systems and the synovial fluids.
The mythic tales of your two rulers – Jupiter and Neptune, give extra insight into your journey as a Pisces. Jupiter/Zeus was to be swallowed by father Saturn upon birth, just like his siblings but his mother achieved a subterfuge and gave Saturn a stone to swallow instead. She took him to a shepherd and his wife to raise. He lived there in secret, then returned full grown and overthrew Saturn, just as had been foretold. This accomplished, he forced Saturn to regurgitate his siblings and one of these was Neptune. Wisely, Jupiter gave his siblings different domains to rule and Neptune/Poseidon became the god of the most mysterious realm of all – the oceans and all that lies deep within them. Most Pisces crave their secrets, often having a secret life or a double life. One life feeds the soul needs, one the worldly needs. Whether the ‘secret time’ takes the form of a spiritual practice, a love of reading fiction, some version of a ‘quiet drink’ each day, or artistic solitude, depends on the individual Pisces. Sometimes your Pisces soul craves drama and achieves it via a clandestine affair or a fated but flawed partnership. Mythic Jupiter was tied eternally to his wife, the very jealous Hera but repeatedly had secret affairs. The most receptive of the signs and often wildly sociable, Pisces is happiest when all the worldly activities are complimented by secrets and solitude. Neptune endows an other-worldly quality that must be somehow integrated for Pisces to feel whole.
With Jupiter representing the quest for adventure and wisdom and Neptune the search for transcendence, their special message to Pisces is to follow your dreams with your feet on the ground.
