Several scenes from really old classic movies were interspersed. The ones I remember are:
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Barrymore – he’s in his lab drinking the potion – she’s banging on the door outside – he starts changing, and she sees him (it’s been a long time since I’ve seen that movie, so I’m just trying to replay the visuals in my mind).
The Dali/Bunuel movie, Un Chien Andalou where the woman’s eyeball gets slit by a razor blade and the ants are crawling out of the man’s hand, and the man wipes his mouth away. I love this movie from way back in my college days, and I couldn’t believe I was seeing scenes from it again. I can’t remember where they were interspersed in the movie, but those are the scenes I remember seeing.

There was one song Tre sang – I’m almost sure it was kind of country or something like that, and I almost think he was dressed up like a cowboy (maybe this was just what I dreamed last night, though). But what I do know is that Billie played the drums, Tre had a mic on a stand and also walked around a fair bit. It was a longish song. At one point, Tre rode the mic stand like a stick horse.

Someone’s already mentioned the part where Billie and Mike robot dance – it wasn’t hard core robot dancing – just kind of relaxed and spontaneous and fun - really cute and loveable. I can’t for the life of me remember what music they were dancing to sad.gif … can anyone else help?

Okay, here’s some BJ for y’all:

There were a couple of times when Billie was just sitting on a chair with people on either side of him (and it seemed like he was in a really small room – like a sound booth). He was just sitting there talking to them, and at first it seemed odd … then someone would walk in and hand him a guitar. He would bring up his right hand, which was holding a plug and plug it in. Then start to play.

There was once when he was playing and he unplugged the guitar and handed it to a tech and said, “Make it sweet.” I think that might be when he started talking about not ever using a tuner until Dookie. Everyone in the room was saying stuff like, “You’re kidding!” “Never?” Someone said, “How did you like find A?” He said, "I just tried to make it sound as close as I could."

Okay, I absolutely loved this part. It’s black and white. You see Billie’s right arm in a short-sleeved shirt (he’s holding a guitar but his arm is just hanging there – maybe he’s talking to someone or just waiting for the music to start). The way it’s filmed, your eyes are drawn to his tattoos. Suddenly, his arm starts to pump up and down so fast that the tats become a blur – you see all those tats that you recognize, but they’re just an amazing black and white blur, and this goes on for quite a while. Sweat appears and flies off his arm. Can’t find the words to tell you how beautiful that scene was to me.

This is the first part of my recap, the first half of this half is about the restaurant and meeting John, which I will post when I'm finished. If you know any of the things that have _____ , please let me know what they are! I am trying to figure it out. thumbsup.gif

Around 7:30 the line was out to the street, and we started going inside. We had to check our name off on a list and get our hand stamped. The stamp was blue and it was the silhouette of the number one, and inside it said ___________. On the inside, there was a huge pile of HLAHG posters sitting on a table. We took two. And then we entered the theater room, which was really cool. There was a really awesome design on the roof and tons of speakers. There was also a Live Freaky Die Freaky shirt on every chair! It was a nice surprise. It’s now my third favorite shirt. (My first one being the Clovis Cross Country Invitational 2007 shirt that I wore to the Foxboro Hot Tubs concert, and got beer and spit and sweat all over smile.gif I still haven’t washed it. Second being My Foxboro Hot Tubs World Tour shirt) We sat near the top row and got good seats. Of course, all the seats were good seats!

Then a black woman walked in and John said “Hey everybody! This isn’t a Jack Johnson concert, there’s a black woman here!” (or something like that) And everyone laughed. It was a great way to start off the night.

When everyone was settled down, John had a speech prepared for us. He was standing below the stage with a podium. He also had some note cards. First he asked for some light to be shone on him, and one of the operators did it. It was funny! Then he began by thanking the band and going through some note cards. “Hi I’m John… blah blah blah…. 18 and older… blah blah blah….” And he would throw the cards to the side when he was finished with them. (I wanted to run down there and keep some!) He also talked about Billie calling him up on a Sunday, telling him to “come and bring a camera” to record the making of their album. It’s a good thing he did! Then he talked about first seeing Green Day live at Madison Square Garden, and when he saw them he thought to himself, “I’m going to film this band recording an album. And I’m going to name it Heart Like a Hand Grenade.” He had so many jokes thrown into his speech. It was hilarious! I wish I had the whole thing recorded.

Then he pulled out a folded piece of paper, which he said was from Pat Magnarella, and it had some jokes on it. The first one was about Billie: __________. The second one was Tre: “So Tre walks in one day with some clogs on. I asked him, “Tre, why do you have clogs on?” And he said, “Wooden shoe like to know!” (LOL) John: “Wooden shoe! I get it!” And the last one was Mike: “(Mike)You know, this economy we’re living in really stinks.” “(Pat)Yeah, but not as bad as your shit!” The place erupted in laughter.

Then John said he had something cool for the people that came from out of California. First he called up the girl from “Germany” (Anja) and she got a card from the making of American Idiot video. Then he called up everyone else from out of the state, and they all received one. When Beth went up, he had just given the last one away. He said “I’m sorry… Just steal one from someone!” It was sad, but funny at the same time.
