my REALLY bad translation:
the first impression at the prelistening at warner music was a surprise, which wasn’t a surprise anymore: already in fall of last year was an information in the media, that butch vig would be producer for 21st century breakdown.
That this change (all albums before were produced by rob cavallo (except for warning), is a reasonable decision, is already proofed by the first chords. It’s ragefull and rough, without losing on sound quality. A quality of vig, which made bands like sonic youth, nirvana and the smashing pumpkins big (?).
The traces of the producer’s hand in the sound are accordingly clear. The beginning of the opener could leave the impression, that it’s the false album (sounds like the hives), but one fast notice that this is really punk. Distorted vocals and rough sound give the feeling of an album, with which the band doesn’t want to be on the safe path.
There’s no charts-like-singalong-refrain in horseshoes and handgrenades. Also know your enemy is really rough and surprisingly the first single.
But green day wouldn’t be green day, if they wouldn’t use their feeling for good harmonies. With the third part, the pop is clearly increasing. (the acoustic intro on before the lobotomy, the fast punksong murder city. A fast change between pop and riot-feeling.
A small path, on which green day are moving, but it works surprisingly good in its completeness. There are many influences: The Clash, Beach Boys ("The Static Age"😉, Paul McCartney ("Restless Heart Syndrome"😉: Singer/Songwriter, Gospel or – of course! – Punk. Many different things are brought together to one big, new thing.
The titletrack is a great end, which shows again, why green day is so successful: a great pop-punk-firework: loud, harmonic, offensive and with a great hookline.
Surprinsingly it’s another song, one remember on the way home: the mentioned single know your enemy. This number has to have, though it’s very rough, something special.
hope you can understand, though.

on the german green day site (yeah, again biggrin.gif) was posted that some german journalists could listen to 13 of the songs. it's mentioned, that it is a real punk album. they also say that it rocks more than the last albums.
here's the link of the playlist: http://twitpic.com/2gse4 (i wonder what "(little girl)" means.)

ROG WHAT IT SAYING MAN?
not gonna translate the whole thing for you...that is unless you pay me..
here's a synopsis..
First impression of the album was a surprise but Butch Vig producing it wasn't really a surprise becaue it was already leaked last year...
The chords are angry, raw and coarse but its not losing the overall greatness of the sound
there's not one track that is suitable for a chart entry though..."no chart suitable singalong Song" they like Murder City and Hookline in particular
an overall surprisingly good album
