Well that is true, but it all depends on what you mean. The sun has about 5 billion years left on the main sequence. then it will become a red giant. After a relatively short time, a few million years, the sun will become a white dwarf. It will then take trillions of years to become a black dwarf. However, Earth will become uninhabitable within the next 2 billion years.
