Scientifically speaking, psychopathy is a more powerful stimulant than crack:
Workaholics are anti-social. The greatest geniuses who ever lived, had personality disorders (Einstein for example). Why? Social skills, empathy, and most of all putting others before oneself (something I found as a key to well-being and long-lasting happiness) takes away from one's ability to obsess about their work. So they say.
I believe I can be socially empathetic and put others before myself, yet I can still live in a manic state. I've done so the first few years of my life - then I turned into a rotten bastard. I was miserable acting selfish, I can't live like that. I need a conscience, because the benefits of altruism (of caring and being cared for) outweigh the risks of losing it all in self-centered psychopathy.
