Some people favour it for aesthetic reasons (look at Apple for example – their simple product designs have done wonders for their business) and some for artistic reasons (i.e. using repetition effectively – one of my favourite bands, Shellac, are an example of that). Living minimally makes you have a less cluttered home, and being able to craft great things out of very little is a sign of genius, really.
what are advantages of minimalism besides less work/effort being needed
It's a way of living, one that I haven't totally embraced (my book collection, for example) but one that I do apply when I write essays, fiction and songs. Stripped-down stuff lets the greatness shine brighter.
