Hey, there's no time like the present! Get yourself a cheap bass/amp combo or something, you can get them pretty cheap

Even better... My daughter has both a bass guitar and the amp for it sitting in her room I'm thinking about trying out.

Oh defo try it out then! Look up how guitar/bass tabs work and look up some simple songs, it takes a while to get used to the thickness of the strings but it doesn't take too long to get the basics of it

I started watching Josh Fossgreen videos on youtube. He explains things pretty alright. Weekend goal is to give it a try.

Ah yeah, youtube tutorials are possibly even better! Good luck with it!

Thanks!

can't even mindlessly vandalise wikipedia pages anymore, sucks.

can your daughter teach you the basics

She doesn't play. She wanted to a while ago but lost interest. So the guitar and amp sits in her room as decoration.

Someone needs to form an OK-Computer-Era-Radiohead revival band, might as well be me

Now I just need two other guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer

My problem with forming a band is that there are too many bands to take influence from

Television, Gang of Four, Dinosaur Jr, Husker Du, The Replacements, Fugazi, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, MBV, Pixies, Pavement, Slint, Drive Like Jehu, all incredible bands but forming them into one cohesive sound would be a ****ing pain

And that's only like a tiny fraction of them

Electioneering is ****ing great

You speak the truth.

Oh yeah, my other problem with forming a band is the fact that I have nobody to play with awehuhs

wonder what kind of music would be created if someone was taught guitar but never heard any other music before

They'd just play whatever they got taught. If the person teaching them was a blues guitarist, they'd unwittingly play blues. If the person teaching them was a metal guitarist, they'd play metal. Etc.

i guess its almost impossible not to be influenced in music in some way

If you just gave someone who'd never heard music before a guitar and said, "go for it," that'd be interesting. Letting toddlers play about with random instruments is fascinating. I want to raise my kids (if I have them) on music.

Totally got back into Radiohead like fo' srs. I just wish they did more rock stuff. I know they felt like they were trapped in an iron lung, but seriously, Just and Paranoid Android are just so badass. I love all of their albums, but as a guitar aficionado, those two songs are ****ing wild shit that can't be held down
