"Among those nominated but yet to get in are Lou Reed (expect that to change next year, thanks to his October 2013 death), the Cure, Kraftwerk, MC5, Wings, the Wailers, Mary Wells, Steve Winwood, Joe Tex, War, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Gram Parsons, the New York Dolls, Afrika Bambaataa, and Eric B. and Rakim. Among those never nominated? The Smiths, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dolly Parton, Barry White, Sonic Youth, Joy Division, Roxy Music, Sade, the Pixies, Peter, Paul and Mary, Duran Duran, Meatloaf, Kool and the Gang, Patsy Cline, the Carpenters, Kate Bush, Jethro Tull, Tommy James and the Shondells, Rick James, Janet Jackson, Iron Maiden, INXS, Eurythmics, Dire Straits, Dead Kennedys, Cheap Trick, Black Flag, and many more."

Almost every band snubbed deserve a spot more than Green Day, seriously. No Cheap Trick? No Green Day. No Black Flag? No Green Day. No Dead Kennedys? No Green Day. Not to mention Husker Du and the Replacements, all of whom were watered down to create Green Day's sound. I mean yeah, okay, Green Day, decent band, they can write a good song and they're fun, etc. But essentially... they're inessential to the history of rock music.

oh contrare, blink 182 and Sum 41 came to be as a result of green day. As did bowling for soup , good Charlotte, Jimmy eat world and all that pop emo scenester converse Bollocks we've had over the last decade at least.

So by ruining rock music, they are at least historically relevant if not essential.

Fair point, well then, they're inessential to the history of rock music that matters, good rock music

Very very essential to shit rock music. Not that I think they're a shit band, I don't listen to them any more but if someone sticks on one of their songs I'm likely to enjoy it, unless it's 21 Guns or Wake Me Up When Seperyrdfhxfgjhftjffwhothe****evencares or something.

probably? I can't think of any other circle jerk reason.

Circle Jerks, now there's a great band

"Whenever you realize Arthur Lee and Love are not in the Hall, just remind yourself that U2 and the Eagles made it."

What a depressing way of looking at it

2004 was the beginning of the end. Nerds who thought they were cool rebels for listening to music about weed and depression copying Nerds who copied real punk rebels from the 80s. The clash, the dead Kennedys etc. They were forming music to as counterculture to synthetic pop. The **** are Green Day rebelling against? Or any of the others I mentioned? It's cool to jump on the bandwagon, and that's exactly how they made money.

ha just more bullshit lol

When Green Day start rebelling against their fancy custom signature guitars and their massive SUVs and their four or five houses in three or four countries and their designer clothes brands and their modern pop-rock 'punk' hit singles, maybe then they'll prove their worth. As it stands though, let's face it – that's never going to happen.

I dunno though, I reckon the beginning of the end started just before the turn of the millennium or so, maybe even earlier. The state of modern popular and so-called 'alternative' rock is pretty dire, but there's plenty of good shit still coming out, it just takes a bit longer to find. I've already got a bunch of albums that've come out this year that I love and listen to regularly.

the premiere isn't even this sunday it's next sunday dummy!

What have Green Day done to earn them a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? That place is a joke, first they start letting hip-hop artists in, now they just stick any old joke with a stringed instrument in there and pray that they don't look like a bunch of morons who know nothing about rock music.
oh stop

You gotta go to the museum to really appreciate all the music

They also have country music folks in the museum
