Isn't that guy from System of a Down?

No, that's Scott Ian from Anthrax.

So the only difference is that his band is only slightly less shit than the other one

I don't think SOAD are shit, really. Anthrax had some good and decent albums in the 80's, anything since then has been shit. Like basically any other thrash band.

Actually, I guess that's debatable...

Yeah, SOAD get really bad press because of a lot of their fan base. But most of their ten-yr-o fan base only know like, three of their songs. They actually do some cool stuff with time signatures, and are generally pretty offbeat, too. So props to 'em.

Anthrax basically had two decent albums, but even then I find them weak compared to their contemporaries.

Yeah some bands just have really shit fan bases. None shitter than Tool though.

I always liked Anthrax because they didn't take themselves so seriously. Out of the big four I'd rate them better than Megadeth. Hate Megadeth. Don't particularly like 80's metal to begin with though.

I hated Megadeth for ages, but I've warmed to them now a bit, because I had a mate who defended them for ages and basically pushed them on me, and now I generally quite like at least two of their albums. Haven't listened to Anthrax as much as the other three, they're the only one out of them I haven't revisited since my teens. Maybe I should, I dunno, I have Among the Living around somewhere.

If you class the start of death metal as '80s metal, then I guess I'm a fairly big fan of it. But hair metal, most thrash and speed, I'm not that into. European thrash I can dig a bit more, which is weird because it sounds almost exactly the same, but usually with slightly harsher vocals.

I never really listen to metal anymore. I listened to the Deafheaven record last year. Then I listened to some Mastodon and Baroness records a week or two ago.

Yeah, Mastodon and their sludgy/technical ilk never really get old. But same, metal isn't my most listened to style. I don't really class most grindcore as metal though, so there is that. I listen to plenty of that. I find that, on lower volumes, it actually works well when I'm studying or doing essays. mmm

I've mostly been listening to some funk and shoegaze lately.
