As the new discovery being a hominin, it is essential to know about it. It is a 3.5 million years old fossil that was discovered in Africa as mentioned before by Justus Erus in 1999. The Lucy fossil, the A. afarensis, may not have been alone due to the new discovery of the K. platyops, which was found to have a face too flat to belong to the A. afarensis (Wayman, 2012). The fact that researchers take the fact that there was in fact a different species or that it was only an inaccurate skull having damage over the long period of time is what creates this well-known confusion specially between researchers and anthropologists. Possibilities can be as a simple period of time being damaged, or a diet-driven radiation, there can be many answers yet to be discovered. Moreover, a series of diagrams will be shown in order to comprehend more about this new hominin discovery.
