Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink

From Wikipedia:

British newspaper The Guardian researched his unusual sounding name and found that he was thus named because:

...way back in the 17th century, two farming families in the Enschede area of Holland intermarried. Both the Vennegoor and Hesselink names carried equal social weight, and so – rather than choose between them – they chose to use both. 'Of' in Dutch actually translates to 'or', which would mean that a strict translation of his name would read Jan Vennegoor or Hesselink.

is that at all common in your homeland

Not really, but it happens a lot in royalty. One of my friends back home was of a minor royal family and his name is Van der Meer de Walcheren.

"Liberals shouldn’t be afraid to ask hard questions. Young German women thankfully enjoy historically unprecedented economic and sexual freedom, with their expensive smartphones and their right to celebrate New Year’s Eve however they want. The same isn’t always true of young male migrants exchanging life under repressive regimes, where they may at least have enjoyed superiority over women, for scraping by at the bottom of Europe’s social and economic food chain. It is not madness to ask if this has anything to do with attacks that render confident, seemingly lucky young women humiliated and powerless."

😐

It's worded rather strangely but it's not that strange of a question to ask yourself. I can tell you from personal experience that I've seen a lot of Arab teenagers loiter around supermarkets harassing Dutch women for wearing tight pants or short skirts etc. There's definitely a lot of anger towards Western women in Arab communities in the West.

No, not really. A lot of the minor royals families have no assets anymore, just the title. His family is one of them.
