I can't drink almost anything with caffeine after my stupid caffeine overdoses when I was 16 and 17, one can of coke/Dr Pepper is pretty much my limit

Or it could be milestone anxiety.

Oh god yeah, I have to see you two crackers

Nahh that's gonna be awesome, gonna be weird but great

If Stan's there too, half the conversation will be us three saying "Sorry, what?"

Yeah, I know. But it's about all that keeps me going day to day, so there's not much I can do about it. I know what I'm like, a proper daft bastard

Tru dat.

I just say "slower" and he slows it down until I understand haermm

A Little Life is the worst book I've read in a long time. What an atrocious piece of shit. I'm not even going to finish it.

So, would you recommend it?

If you're into tragedy porn, you might dig it.

That's actually a genius idea. I just kept saying "I didn't understand any of that, say it again" over and over until I either figured it out or just smiled and went "Yeah," which I could tell he knew what I was doing, but didn't have the effort left in him to keep going

I plan on finishing Infinite Jest by the end of this year

A Little Life is sort of like an incompetent, unintelligent writer's attempt at writing a '10s version of a book like Infinite Jest.

laughcry

Yeah I said 'what' a load of times, followed by "nope, still didn't get it" then I suddenly figured out it was cause he was speaking so fast.

Think it's usually with things he's worried sounds stupid or something so he says it really quick as if to brush over it

so now I just get him to slow it down and then I can understand him fine 😊

I've ragged on Jonathan Franzen in the past and how he's been heralded as the Great Contemporary Writer but if this is the alternative, I'd gladly only read Franzen from now on.

I'm actually annoyed that I spent money on this. There's a booksale at work next month with the proceeds going to charity but I wouldn't wish this turd on my worst enemy.

love when I'm listening to music and a gif just fits perfectly with the rhythm

also, I totally just spelt rhythm right straight off which I'm pretty pleased about. usually typo the shit out of that word.

I might start saying this

Slay is really making me want to read this book.

The only contemporary authors I really read are like minimalist guys or a bit of Bizarro stuff. Not Tao Lin though.
