SOC: Guy makes potentially interesting, if somewhat depressing, points.
1. Technological advances can sometimes extend and/or exacerbate, if not cause, the enslavement of people. At least where there's economic incentive to do so. Here, with Eli Whitney's cotton gin and the infamous North Atlantic trade.
2. It's sometimes necessary to understand how things were to understand how OTHER things in the past came to be and/or were, and thus discover the true conditions that shaped our world.
