Bishops are usually considered stronger pieces toward the end of the game. Often, though, the pawns make it difficult to use the bishop piece during the early parts of the game. The bishop is considered excellent in defending a castled King, though and can be used to help pin pieces into areas of the board. Most experts would agree, though, that giving up a Bishop is better than giving up a Rook.
Good as a general maxim, and, surprisingly, a way of describing that is somewhat counter to what I thought before, new to me, and thought provoking.
Probably the best way to reconcile with one of the most helpful insights another player ever shared with me is to realize pawns are as much impediment as assist if you don't know how to use them. Or, conversely, if you do.
So BOTH bishops and rooks see "power increase" as the board becomes emptier of pawns and other material. And in fact rooks probably see a greater power increase than bishops, overall; especially when the board is clearest.
A lone king cannot be checkmated by one king and a bishop, for instance, though it is possible for a lone King to be checkmated by one King and a rook.
At any rate, it is probably a good idea TO share the insight shared with me by another player, now, incredibly to me, more than 5 years ago, and, unfortunately, one who was banned recently from the forum I first met them on, Nimzo666, Ishmael something-or-other, who cured me of my most reckless habit -- attacking a castled king with knight and bishop:

While I'm thinking of those, the latter strangely relating not only to your comment and Christianity, but also to Kubrick's work and psychology, let me also post the following, which someone claimed Collative Learning's Rob Ager borrowed from:

... as well as a personally as-yet-unwatched feature involving everyone's favorite controversial Canadian philosopher:

In my professional opinion? She's hot ...!
Indeed. And to be frank, I'm trying now to think of any societally approved activity more conducive to marriage between a young man and a young woman.
So far, absolutely nothing comes to mind ... mmm
How boring. Someone please put me out of my misery. So my group wants to reconvene tomorrow to talk about future work as if I do not have already enough on my plate. I feel like all I do is work and no play, I just can't get a break to myself. I just want a moment of pure peace where im surrounded by brownies, dip and chips, also my home made chilly with thee best spicy sauce ever. I'm redoing my room, new bed new dresser and new paint job. Right now its purple and I am not feeling it anymore.
