The game of hide and seek originated in Greece in the 2nd century and is described by a Greek scholar named Julius Pollux. The rules of Sardines are different, and it gets its name because by the end of the game, all but one player will be hiding in the same hiding spot!

The 15 hide and seek variations are: Hide and seek (standard), Hide and seek team up, Sardines, Hide and seek jail, Secret wave, Everyone is on, Blocko, Water pistol hide and seek, Kick the can, Hide and seek move, Hide the teddy, Hotter/colder, Code hide and seek, Object hunt and finally, Using maps to find ‘treasure’’. Hey, we aren’t making this up!

For some reason, Marco Polo is a NOT considered a type of hide and go seek. It is however a great sound game to play with a group of children, or a mixture of children and adults. It's similar to "hide-and-go-seek" except that you use sound rather than sight to find everyone, but we guess that isn’t enough for the hide and go seek snobs!

The current world record for the Largest Game of Hide and Seek is 1437 people playing.

Hide and seek world championship officially named "Nascondino World Championship" is the unique international hide-and-seek competition, a team play for adults, with non-diversified categories by gender. Born in 2010 in the Italian city of Bergamo, it is held annually in Italy, in summer. The game is a derivative of the Italian version of hide and seek, "nascondino" (hide-and-seek in Italian), and takes place on a playground in the open air, set up with artificial and natural hideouts. The seventh competition took place in September 2017, with 70 teams from 11 countries.
