A look-alike, double, or doppelgänger is a person who bears a strong physical resemblance to another person, excluding cases like twins and other instances of family resemblance. It is generally believed that all of us have have seven doppelgangers in the world- those who are not related to us but look disturbingly similar. The thought can be amusing as well as disconcerting, but not entirely unbelievable.
Feeling attraction toward someone who looks like you is a surprisingly common phenomenon. Just look at the numerous celeb couples who bear an eerie resemblance to each other! Lookalike partners may be drawn to each other, subliminally, because of their genes. Plenty of studies have found that spouses tend to be more genetically similar than strangers, sharing predictors of everything from height to educational attainment.
Most corvids (any of a family of stout-billed passerine birds including crows, jays, magpies, and ravens) look fairly similar (excluding jays who are like a theatre kid in a goth family). Ravens are the loftiest and most fashionable thanks to their “beard” of throat feathers. Crows and rooks are of the same size, but rooks have a distinct grey beak and fancy feather “pants” on their legs. Jackdaws are the goofiest-looking thanks to their very short beaks and a round heads with black caps.
