Great Lakes Awareness DayThere are five Great Lakes: Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Erie. Together they make up the largest body of freshwater on Earth and stretch 750 miles from east to west. They are located on the border of the United States and Canada and touch the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, New York, and Pennsylvania. It is believed that at one time the Great Lakes were covered by a glacier—it receded towards Canada and left depressions filled with water.
Thanks for the fun fact Riv
In the early 20th century, some manufacturers were building mattresses with not-so-savory materials to save money on production costs — like food waste, newspapers, old rags, horse hair, and more. Along with being gross and unsanitary, this contributed to fear of social diseases spreading at the time. The government responded to the health risk by requiring tags that stated what was in the mattresses. The mattress tags are directed at the manufacturers, retailers, and salespeople that sell beds. The tags serves two main purposes: They lets customers know they're buying a new, never been-used-before mattress and, it lets the consumer know what materials are inside the mattress.
Basically, these tags were designed to protect mattress consumers. To make sure that manufacturers and retailers didn't try to remove the tags and sell the mattress as new if it contained recycled materials, the tags stated that they can't be removed under penalty of law. Sellers who remove or mutilate a tag before sale or delivery of a mattress or pillow can potentially be held liable for an unfair method of competition and an unfair or deceptive act or practice, under the Federal Trade Commission Act.
On the first week of having your mattress, it should be placed with the label on the top side of the foot end. On the second week, it should be rotated so that the label is now at the pillow end. On the third week, the mattress should be flipped over, with the label still at the pillow end on the underside of the mattress. On the fourth week, the mattress should be rotated so that the label, still on the underside, will be at the foot end again. On week 5, the process repeats itself with the label on the top side at the foot end. This process repeats for 12 weeks, thereafter it should be rotated 180° monthly and flipped over as the seasons change. A good tip is to flip the mattress in sync to Daylight Savings time.
Before putting the fitted sheet on the mattress, stop and look for the sheet's tags when making your bed. Those tags are the secret to bed-making success. Once you've found the tags, all you need to know is that they go on the bottom right corner of the mattress. Putting that dreaded fitted sheet on the rest of the mattress will be a snap if you get that corner of the sheet in the right spot.
