MARILLION’s first album (1983) was Script for a Jester’s Tear. They used and maintained the jester as a symbol for their first four albums with original lead singer Fish, who was known to dress as a jester in some of their live shows. After Fish’s departure, Marillion drafted new vocalist Steven Hogarth, and their artwork and musical style took some new directions (very much worth exploring!); they don’t use the jester now.
DANGEROUS TOYS is an American, Austin, Texas-based rock band, with often humorous lyrics. Founded in 1987, the band released four full-length albums and one live album before unofficially disbanding at the turn of the millennium. The band is known for their mascot. It's a killer clown. Actually, it's a killer klown, since it was inspired by the 1988 cult flick Killer Klowns from Outer Space. The band named it Bill Z Bubb, and it's essentially the American Eddie.
INSANE CLOWN POSSE, often abbreviated as ICP, is an American hip hop duo. Formed in Detroit in 1989 as a gangsta rap group, ICP's best-known lineup consists of rappers Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope. ICP is known for its elaborate live performances and theatrical horror-inspired lyrics. Oh yeah, and their clown makeup.
“Charlie Brown" is a popular Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller song that was a top-ten hit for the Coasters in the spring of 1959 (released in January, coupled with "Three Cool Cats", Atco 6132). It went to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, while "Venus" by Frankie Avalon was at No. 1. It was the first of three top-ten hits for the Coasters that year. It let us all know that Charlie Brown is a clown, and asked the eternal question, "Why's everybody always pickin' on me?"
