You often hear the explosive power of a popcorn kernel bursting into a yellow-gold bloom of deliciousness, but did you also know that same kernel could fly 3 feet in the air unobstructed? That is according to author Lucille Fairweather, author of "Amazing Popcorn Secrets."

In the movie Real Genius. The heroes hijack the test of the giant space laser, redirecting it to Dr. Hathaway's house, which they had previously filled with unpopped popcorn kernels, turning it into a giant Jiffy-Pop. The popcorn all pops and explodes out of the house. Dr. Hathaway, who hates popcorn, comes home during the beginning of the end credits to find his whole house full of the stuff.

On MythBusters, the scene from Real Genius was tested where a house is destroyed by having a massive amount of popcorn cooked inside of it. Sadly, real life popcorn will fail to pop if it is not under pressure during cooking, so it's not actually possible.

In The Simpsons season 10 episode "They Saved Lisa's Brain": During the "How Low Can You Go?" talent show (in which contestants perform the lowest, most disgusting acts ever), Homer wears a popcorn kernel suit and uses some blow-dryers to make them pop while singing a parody of Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" called "Hot Buttered." Soon, the suit gets TOO hot. Homer gets 4 out of a possible 10 for his "act," and gets attacked by the chickens Barney was supposed to use for his act (which was Barney drinking an entire six-pack and juggling chickens).

One of the most memetic uses of popcorn is in Michael Jackson's Thriller. In the movie theatre, Michael Jackson is happily munching away at popcorn while his girlfriend is freaking out at the horror film they are watching.
