I would choose allegiance to no side. I would rely solely on myself, and maybe train an apprentice taking the best of both arts and learning to balance themself to achieve mastery over the Force and fighting with a lightsaber. I would, however, help out the Republic in DIRE times of need, not just some little Clone War, but maybe the Yuuzhan Vong.
