Yeah, Sony will lose a lot of money, because they'll spending more than they'll be making because they'll have to have a lower price than 650 and 500 to even compete with the other consoles.
But it's not all a bad thing because Sony is trying to do once again what they tried to do with their video player that failed in the past. They plan on having PS3's in homes even if the people only buy it for the DVD Player.
Their mindset is that people will buy the PS3 before they just buy a seperate Blue Ray DvD Player, which will help them expand their business and take over in that area and be in everybody's homes and be their entertainment providers.
They may be losing money, but I'd say what they'll be gaining if this is successful will be worth it.

I don't mean to seem patriotic, and my facts may even be wrong, but I'll buy the 360 for two reason.
1) It may help stimulate the US economy, this is a very good reason why Americans should buy this system.
2) Buying all three next gen systems, keeps all of the other companies striving to produce better software, as well as hardware.
Like I said my facts may be incorrect, but then again they might not be.
