According to the Return of the Jedi novel he exploded in evil dark-side energy. So he coulda fell in a sewer and still exploded. Do your research before you talk shit.

According to a novel Obi-Wan had a brother with the last name of Lars that lived on Tatooine. Moral of the story: dont believe everything you read.

is this thread still going???

buddy, JP is right, your wrong, live with it.

How do you know "brother" was meant to be taken literally? But a person's death accompanied by blue energy with wind-like properties is just a tad supernatural. Don't ya think?

maybe we should throw you into a reactor core and see what happens.

Obi-Wan deliberately says "Your Uncle was my brother." That's to be taken as literally as possible, methinks. Not true, though. He's Anakin's step-brother, not Obi-Wan's brother.

I think it has to do with the Dark Side of the Force, manifested by his lightning, striking everything as he goes down the shaft. His lightning ****s up a few things, goes into the reactor core, windy whispy boom. It's not Palpatine combusting, I don't think.

maybe his fear caught up to him and he farted on the reactor plasma, creating a volatile explosion.

It's a simple reason why Palpatine (as you call it) exploded😂

Tyranus and Maul were not even in the same league as Palpatine, and i guess ALL the great Sith Lords just went out in a.........big way, lol😐

also i think that certain scene was just to show all the evil releasing from his body

Whenever I watch Lando fly the Falcon into the core, I keep looking for the Emperor's body on all those pipes.

the books are EU and the authors simply translate to what they thought happened in the films. it seemed in rotj that palps exploded, so they went with that. im sure the books are cool, but not reliable at all in a debate on canon.

Yeah, I agree with that. Normally I believe EU should not be disregarded, but this time, yes the PT movies view (not all evil Force-users blow up) does feel more right

Another possible 'explanation' could be that only the most powerful Sith explode.

"But a person's death accompanied by blue energy with wind-like properties is just a tad supernatural. Don't ya think?"

No offence, but Star Wars has always involved the supernatural.

That kinda sums it up for me too.

Come up with something new in this thread or it is dead.

Lets See. What Happened To Sidious's Second Lightsaber?

yeah, maybe.....

dont' ya love how the PT tried to explain so many things? First, midichlorians, then origin of 3-PO, etc? Whatever happened to suspension of disbelief with the OT?

When I watched ROTJ for the first time, I thought the Emperor, I mean "Darth Sidious" fell into the abyss and released all his evil energies, along with energies from the reactor, etc. I thought Yoda was Obi-Wan's only mentor. I thought Vader was older than 40s. I didn't know this "ancient religion" that Jedi practiced was....only destroyed 20 years ago, hence making it "ancient" (??)

Or the fact that there were more DArths. In the OT, only Obi-Wan called Vader, Darth. As if Darth was his first name. I don't recall any of PT Jedi calling Maul or Tyrannus, "Darth."

I hope I'm not the only one who felt the "magic" was lost when the PT were made and tried to "explain" things.

Lucas changed his mind several times during the last 30 years.... a lot of times I think. And then he says: great films are not finished but abandoned... Yeah, sure.

When the Emperor kicked the bucket, he exploded in bright blue energy, cuz he's a Sith Lord, a'ight? So why didn't Maul or Dooku follow suit?

My bad if this shit has been done before--I searched and I never found a thread like this.

He died because he was thrown into a reactor-thingie... 😕

yup and he didnt explode

if sith explode when die. ermmm, DM n DT got lightsabered there. Everybody's happy.

That's my take on it... I really do think Palpatine exploded in ROTJ releasing his evil energies.

The reasoning is kind of simple when you think about it.

In the OT, when the Jedi died, they went peacefully, disappearing and becoming one with the Force.

When Sidious died, he refused to "let go" and fought it all the way, going out in a violent, explosive manner, completely gone from existence.

This parallels the way he transformed when he was zapping Mace... I sincerely believe his evil energies were finally being released and were destroying his body.

So why did Maul and Dooku not explode? They weren't nearly as evil as Palpatine... he was PURE unredeemable evil... a Sith Master even!

You might could make an argument that this happened in a limited way to Maul... remember when Obi-Wan sliced him in half and for a brief instance you see a red flash? Some people think that was blood. But you never see that happen when anyone else gets sliced. 😉
