As their music goes, its Slayer's great all time music, and Metallica's early heavy great music. I'd have to go with SLAYER easily! Metallica's old stuff was great, but their new stuff has gone to puts.And also, Slayer can keep a hold of their bass player, sadly Metallica pops a new bass player every once and a while...
Well this certainly makes Slayer a better band.
I mean a band that has a better Rythmnist,guitarist etc. but can´t keep their bassist are sure to be shit 🙄
Anycrap,Slayer is okay but Metallica is just plain better.They just are.
Besides hearing ´´The Holocaust´´In every song is getting annoying...
Can't say I've heard that in every Slayer song.
Metallica have the numbers advantage in terms of superior musicians. Slayer have one of the best drummers of all time though (and retorting with 'So do Metallica' doesn't count. Because they don't).
So it's essentially James and Kirk Vs Dave.
As a whole, I prefer Metallica at their best.

Whatever. Think what ya wanna. I love Slayer. I like Metallica, but not as much as Slayer. Yeah, I heard Slayer many years after I first heard Metallica, but I like a lot more Slayer songs than Metallica songs. Sure, Slayer tends to repeat things, but you can't say that they do it in every song.....I have two Slayer CD's, and not every song sounds the same! Kerry's guitar playing can often sound the same, but they really expirement.
I personally miss Metallica's older harder music. I wish they could play some heavier songs, but they're doing their own thing.
To be honest... I think these bands are two different kinds of metal... but some people are getting off track... the question was "Who is the HARDEST band?" not "better band"... Hardest DEFINATELY goes to Slayer... but better band? I'm not so sure... Slayer DOES have two really talented lead guitarists and their drummer is amazing... but their singer is a monotone and you you don't know what he's saying half the time... I still have much respect for them though, for putting out LEGENDARY metal anthems such as Raining Blood and Angel Of Death... but when they write riffs, i don't think that timing is on their minds... Metallica is by far the better band... Blackened send chills down my spine everytime i hear the intro... and the solo on Master Of Puppets (the one after "laughter, laughter.. laughing at my cries"😉 is one of the greatest solos in metal history! but i'm getting off-track here...
Slayer = harder
Metallica = better
P.S. they did not sell out... they just grew up... i'm proud of them
but St. Anger??? WHERE ARE THE SOLOS???!!! they better have some on their next album!
alpha, i aplaud you for sticking up for metallica. i feel likle the only one on these pages.
they certainly were never sell outs, the music they produced was what evolved at the time and was what they wanted to play. why would a band who wre already millionaires try to cash in any more? load and reload were more experimental and more contempory than their earlier albums. s&m was also a very experimental album which for me, was incredible.
also, how do you know how talented a guitar player is compared to another? what tehy play on stage has little to do with how good they are.i'm sure kirk could play slayer songs in his sleep, and vice versa. i am a hardcore metallica fan, i will be honest. but just because i am doesnt mean i'm going to slag off a different bands musicians simply because its not rob, lars, james or kirk. every band who's made it should garner respect. i sometimes feel that music fans are like football fans. they love their team but rarely respect others and hurl abuse too easily.
as for the hardest band? i'd say slayer, but then thats the sort of music they intended to play. if you really need to ask this question i suggest listening to both bands more and decide for yourself.
I think Maiden are quite overrated personally.
I like some of their songs and I do completely respect what they've done, just like I respect The Beatles for doing what they did first.
I just think it's another case of being too stuck in the old days. I think they're good, just that they get way too much praise. Like em though.
