Hmmm, so let's review what happened (correct me if I'm wrong):

You went to Peru to sell some 'stuff' for your mom. While you were there, you visited family. You were there for two days and sold your things, then left.

On the less personal note, the customs agents did not care about what was in the bags. They did not bother asking you to declare your items or fill out the paperwork because they did believe your excuse which was the truth. You also were not dealing in illegal substances, but you did somehow make a profit off of the trip.

You moron, they charged you that money because you were over your personal cargo limit with 10 bags. That had nothing to do with Customs, that's a frieght issue. Are you meaning to tell me that the Peru customs agents did not have any problems with you importing items (including medicine) to Peru with the intent to sell?
