You are living in an "illusion of the self". There is no need for ego, or to see yourself as something or someone. Self-identification creates conflict in the world.
Believing that what you're saying is true is also a form of egotism when it is at the expense of another person's line of questioning. Highlighting your difference of opinion is also a means to creating a form of self-identification. You are basically telling KharmaDog, "Look at me! What you are doing is wrong! I am right! Listen to what I say!".

I know you are now a reformed Budhist, but I believe that the world is a big enough place that there are sometimes more than one answer to a single question. "How to be happy" or "How to lead your life" is one of those questions, and as a budhizt you cannot resolve that question for 6 billion people with one answer.
