At least in Doom, he was shown as being more like himself, and the way he put down his enemies was badass.

Superman never suffered an indignity on par with Thor in the Hulk Vs. dvd.

McDuffie showed Superman great respect in All-Star Superman. That dvd single-handedly probably turned Superman around for a lot of kids.

It was that bad?

McDuffie ONLY showed Superman respect in that movie, and in one issue of Action Comics. Otherwise, he went with the "this guy's too powerful, so I don't know what to do with him" route.
