Stated in the scan that he doesn't need to breath and that was a statement of the gas harming him. Lets also not forget that his adamantium hard skin was weakened.

One of the main points of King Thor is that he is an old and weary versions of himself.
King Thor obviously still has some of the Thor Force but calling it full power is ridiculous. It was thought to be completely drained 1000 years ago and he hasn't had the Odin Sleep since then, even after he used some in his fight with Gorr. That's probably a lot longer then Galactus has gone without being fed. Not to mention he pukes out the molten energies of a 1000 worlds, so his reserves are easily as high as they've ever been.
Also, he started feeding on Earth already. Not sure how the feeding process always works but that's worth noting I think.
This King Thor should not be compared to Odin but clearly he is still beastly. Galactus is probably going to win this fight based on the solicit but it should be awesome to see anyways.
