It seems that they're attempting to streamline the Multiverse by getting rid of unnecessary realities, some even think that there will only be one universe after this event.

But as of now it's just speculation and there's no point to get invested in any of it. We'll just have to wait and see.

Don't forget that Universes have been disappearing left and right. Whether it's Rabum Alal and the Ivory Kings fighting or Incursions they all will be disappearing in some shape or form.

IIRC, it actually went down to one (and the anti-matter universe) after CoIE. It bumped up to 52 during Infinite Crisis/52.
